Setpoint
A setpoint is the target value a controller sends to a device, such as the active power in kilowatts an energy management system commands a battery inverter to deliver.
In a storage plant the central setpoint is active power: positive to discharge, negative to charge, and zero to hold. Reactive power, voltage, and frequency targets are also setpoints. A well built EMS validates every setpoint against the device’s rated envelope before writing it, limits how fast it may change, and logs the write with the old value, the new value, and the source of the command.
Also called: Power setpoint, Dispatch command
