Interconnection Agreement (IA)

An interconnection agreement is the contract between a plant owner and the utility or grid operator that sets the technical and operating conditions for connecting the plant to the grid.

It names the point of interconnection and fixes the limits a plant must hold there: maximum export and import, ramp rate, power factor or reactive power range, voltage and frequency ride through, and the telemetry the utility will receive. The power plant controller is the equipment that turns those clauses into real time behavior, and its settings should be traceable back to the agreement.
