Load Forecasting
Load forecasting is predicting how much power a facility or grid will draw in coming intervals, from historical meter data, weather, schedules, and calendar effects.
A storage EMS forecasts minutes ahead to decide whether a demand peak is forming and hours ahead to decide how much charge to hold for it. A sizing tool forecasts years ahead, from interval meter data, to choose the battery’s power and energy. Forecast error is the main reason a peak shaving battery misses a peak, so the algorithm keeps a margin.
