The Lincoln Electric System battery, in brief
Lincoln Electric System is the municipal utility for Lincoln, Nebraska. Its first utility scale battery is a 3 MW / 12 MWh system, four hours of duration, sited to support the downtown community grid and to provide grid services in the Southwest Power Pool footprint. Bridge Renewable Energy, now part of Apollo Capital, developed the project. Eos Energy Enterprises supplied the Z3 zinc based long duration batteries, which are manufactured in the United States. WATTMORE supplied the control layer.
That control layer is Intellect Operate, running as the battery energy management system. It monitors the battery for health and safety, holds the site within its interconnection limits, runs the daily dispatch schedule the utility asked for, and integrates with the utility's SCADA so operators can dispatch the battery from their own control room. The project is listed with its partners on our projects page, and the July 2026 ribbon cutting drew the coverage linked below. Final commissioning was scheduled for the weeks after the ceremony.

WATTMORE announced the completion of the construction phase of our 3 MW / 12MWh Energy Storage Project for the Nebraska utility, Lincoln Electric System (LES), with final commissioning within the coming weeks. The culmination of four years of partnership with Bridge Renewables, now Apollo Capital, and two years of construction with project partner, Eos Energy Enterprises (Eos), as the long-duration energy storage technology supplier, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the facility in Lincoln last week.
This project strengthens the local electric grid and LES’ existing community grid, which supports downtown Lincoln in the event of an outage and handles grid services. The energy system was formed by three American energy companies who worked resiliently to make sure this milestone project efficiently services Nebraska’s capital city.
WATTMORE’s Intellect Operate system will fill the role of a battery energy management system to monitor and control the battery for health, safety and daily operations, as well as provide a customized energy dispatch schedule. WATTMORE is pleased to collaborate on such an innovative project.
