ES Fox - Toronto, Ontario

Background: ES Fox, an Ontario-based multi-trade fabricator and constructor specializing in the industrial, commercial, institutional and nuclear industries, wishes to add energy storage to one of its Ontario-area facilities to lower its energy bill as well as provide back-up power in case of a grid outage. 

Solution: WATTMORE used its proprietary pre-project analysis tool, Ratio, to find the best battery configuration for the project. Using historical usage data, tariffs, and a host of other factors, Ratio was able to forecast an appropriate battery size to achieve an optimal combination of customer energy bill savings and return for the project’s owner. 

WATTMORE is now integrating its Intellect EMS software with the project owner’s battery and inverter of choice in order to operate the battery in-line with Ratio’s forecast, giving the owner and ES Fox peace of mind that the battery is providing them the best economic outcome while operating the battery within its warranty terms and state of health guidelines. 

303 Battery Net Zero High Rise - Seattle, WA

Background: Sustainable Living Innovations (SLI) is a mission-driven company committed to helping close the affordable housing gap for people of all income levels while setting a new standard of sustainable living. SLI manufactures high-performance, panelized buildings for the multi-family market.

Their flagship building, 303 Battery, will be a 15-story, 112-unit Net Zero Energy apartment building, including 27 much-needed affordable housing units. 303 Battery will be the greenest apartment building in Seattle when completed.

Solution: WATTMORE built a control system coordinating BESS and PV arrays at the 303 Battery project. This system provides robust, advanced control features such as load leveling and non-export control.

The Intellect EMS manages the power flow of the PV system and the batteries so that the net load is always greater than a threshold (e.g. 5 kW) and the power generated by the PV array or the power discharged from the batteries will not flow to the utility. Intellect allows PV plus BESS projects to be operated in areas where power exportation is not allowed.

Intellect also reduces the peak demand and reduces power fluctuations throughout the day. Batteries are charged when the load is low or PV generates excess energy, then the batteries discharge the stored energy when demand is high.

This system can be used in commercial buildings and other projects which have BESSs and PV systems.

Lendlease - New York, New York

Background: WATTMORE and Urban Electric Power selected to join Newlab’s Resilient Energy Studio, will team up to bring energy storage solutions to NYC

WATTMORE is working with a NY based battery manufacturer to create portable solutions that allow construction sites in NY to use batteries charged from the grid and generators at night in a densely packed urban environment, reducing noise and pollution.

With acceptance in this cohort, WATTMORE expects to grow its presence and service offerings for clients within New York’s growing energy market, with its vast potential for renewable energy storage projects.
